In the above photo taken over the Strange Uncharted Mountains outside Nibbling, Larry Kaboley, Chief Cartographer of the Royal Nibbling Society of Cartographers, engages in another of his many futile attempts to figure out how to map those mountains.

Hi, I’m Clifford Bean, President of the Society for the Exploration of
The Strange Uncharted Mountains. I won’t pretend to be able to explain the unexplainable. So I’ll just tell you what I know.

As my great granddaddy, a most trustworthy fellow, told me, “on one mysterious day in 1871, the Strange Uncharted Mountains appeared from a mist, just North of our little community of Nibbling, Minnesota.”

Over the years, we “Nibblers” have come to accept their presence, embracing the mystery.

It hasn’t damped our spirits one bit. In fact, I am proud to say, we Minnesotans top the scale when it comes to overall life satisfaction, and here in Nibbling is no exception. We Minnesotans also try to downplay the mysteries in life with a typically heard dismissal in these parts– “Could be worse.”

But because of the Strange Uncharted Mountains, there’s a difference here in Nibbling. For, even as we say, “Could be worse”, our eyes betray us, darting to the north where the mountains are, shifting, unstable, unmappable. And we are in tune with the haunting call they sometimes emit, the train whistle of death.

The train is leaving the station!

Are you bothered by the possibility
you’ve grossly misjudged reality?

Are you now afraid of being left behind?
Come take a trip with us!

Outside of Nibbling, people of all ages, across the planet, push the unknowns, unknowable, and the reality of life’s mysteries, away time and again, reluctant to let it darken their countenance. These clever outsiders distract themselves from it, sometimes for weeks at a time, the yet more determined denier can push it away for months or even years of their life.

But we here in Nibbling don’t have this privilege. For all the Nibbling community, life’s mysteries are brought to bear by the Strange Uncharted Mountains. Their looming presence is a constant warning—Uncertainty, the Unknown, and Death awaits.

Below you’ll see an ancient advertisement that shows our finest Nibbling citizen in action–she can play golf, while the Strange Uncharted Mountains loom in the background!

Four!

(Nibbling, Minnesota) In this photo, Old Mother Mayeye demonstrates the swing which enabled her to become the first 4-year-old in the Lesser Minnesota Area to ever qualify for the Annual Spring Grenade Golf Tournament. On the left is her coach, Bobby “Robert” Jones, who designed and built the Driving Range at Nibbling. Jones, who also founded the Nibbling Golf Links Association, disappeared one
day after an errant drive hooked into the woods at the base of the Strange
Uncharted Mountains, but his memory lives on.

Isn’t this how life is? Shifty and uncertain, our future days beyond charting out; they are clouded, with a vapor-like ambience of the unknown. And even the past can be confusing, and in that sense, unknowable.

What does it all mean?

These are the questions we explore at our weekly lectures. Join us! Or not.

We do these excursions into the mountains in my famous tour bus. You’ll be safe with me. Don’t ask me how, but from my great Granddaddy’s time, we Beans are able to traverse the mountains without getting lost.

As the graphics on the side of the bus read:
